History
The Township of Vail is named after Charlie Vail, a state highway engineer who directed construction of the first highway to enter the area in 1930. Once a sheep-raising and lettuce-growing region, Vail became a premier skiing destination in 1966 when the resort opened. Currently, Vail attracts over a million snow riders every winter.
